“You’re crazy!” Kate hissed.

Caroline snorted her contempt. “I’m crazy…”

“Glad you agree; it’s time you recognised crazy and got some help,” Kate snapped.

“I said, I’m crazy as a question, not a declaration, but if you want to talk about crazy, look in the mirror, sister!” Caroline snapped.

Kate gasped and chuckled. “I didn’t just zap someone stiff as a board,” she replied.

“Can I say something?” Kurt asked.

“No!” Kate and Caroline snapped, glaring at each other.

“Best to sit this one out, furball,” Laney said, folding her arms and watching the witches face off with each other.

“He was gonna bear-out,” Caroline snapped.

“Bear-out?” Kate asked, shrugging with confusion.

“Like wolf-out but with a far bigger backside,” Caroline snapped, rolling her eyes. “Excuse us for coming to your rescue.”

“Don’t involve me in this,” Laney said, holding her hands up in mock surrender. “All I did was remove an obstacle from my path.”

“That would be me,” Callum said, nodding back at her when she turned to inspect him. “Callum.”

“I don’t care,” Laney said, shrugging.

Caroline turned a hard glare on Laney. “You’re the one who was all gung-ho to rescue Kate!”

“I said we should follow her…”

“You called me and said she was being witchnapped!” Caroline hissed.

Laney grimaced as she considered it. “I said she went off with the three bears…”

“Well, she’s not bloody Goldilocks, is she?” Caroline snapped.

“Admit it, you overreacted,” Kate said.

“Fine,” Caroline said, stepping back and holding her hands up. “The next time the three bears kidnap you, I’ll just tend my bar.”

“They didn’t kidnap me,” Kate said.

“More blackmailed,” Samuel said with a shrug and regretted it when he got a frosty glare from Caroline. It was Samuel’s turn to hold his hands up in mock surrender. “I’ll just stand here, saying nothing and freezing my balls off.”

“You do that,” Caroline snapped. “At least one of you will be neutered.”

“Ouch,” Callum said, chuckling.

“Don’t even get me started on you,” Caroline hissed.

Callum considered it. “Yeah, I don’t like the snowbank, which I’ve visited numerous times tonight, so go ahead, I’ll just be quiet.” He grinned at Samuel. “Crazy witches.”

“Not our problem,” Samuel said. “We’re out of here.” He pointed down the road. “Let’s go home before they get any more ideas.” He turned to Kurt, standing with his back against the truck, still trying to regain momentum. “Good luck with that,” he said, pointing to the witches huddled together, bickering and mocked him with a grin.

“You started it,” Kurt grumbled.

“Saved your backside from shifting in the middle of town?” Samuel said, slowly nodding. “You are entirely welcome, brother.”

“We’re leaving as well,” Laney announced with a backward nod to her car for Caroline. “Let’s go.”

“What about Kate?” Caroline asked, scowling.

“What about me?” Kate asked, scowling back at her friend.

“Are you coming back with us or staying with the unpredictable, uncontrollable bear shifter?” Caroline asked.

“He's not uncontrollable,” Kate said, and Kurt’s ears pricked up. Was his mate defending him? “He’s … special.” She remembered what Samuel had said about some shifters having a problem.

“Like, he licks the car windows?” Caroline
